A study on developing process-structure–property relationship with molten pool thermal history during laser surface remelting of Inconel 718

In the area of laser material processing, surface remelting has been found to be an effective method improving properties such as hardness, wear, and corrosion resistance. However, scale improvement depends on evolving microstructure phases, which depend cooling rates. Therefore, in present study, Inconel 718 was carried out a process-structure–property relationship with respect rates developed. During process, molten pool thermal history i.e. rate, lifetime, solidification shelf time is monitored estimated using IR pyrometer. The evolution later correlated these parameters. With increase scan speed, rate resulting transformation from equiaxed grains columnar epitaxial growth. Based results obtained, process map proposed establish particular type rate. Further, effect hardness specific wear also investigated. Both got reduced decreasing at slower speed due grain coarsening elemental segregation or Laves phase formation.
